HAMILTON WEST SCHOOL.
THE QUEEN CARNIVAL. £IOO MARK REACHED. A considreable rise in the voting since mid-day yesterday has resulted in the topping of the £IO,O mark. Several returns have yet to come in, and no doubt the results will rise to a greater height within the next few days.
Details of the voting, as at mid-day to-day, are: — Standard IV. .. .. 3936 Standard II 3841 Standard V 3802 Infants 3141 Standard 111 3001 Standard VI. .. .. 2864 Composite 2250 Standard 1 1981 Total .. .. 24,816 This afternoon a bazaar is being held in aid of the Standard 1 king and queen, Bryan Maguire and Wilma Bulson. A fine array of cakes, sweets, jams, produce, and toys are offered for sale. The bazaar is superintended by Mesdsmes Gough and Owsley. To-morrow afternoon the pupils of Standard VI., will present their concert in the infant schoolroom, at 1.30, and at 2.45 there will be a picture matinee in the Strand Theatre. The proceeds of this entertainment will go to swell the funds of the Standard 1., royalty. An excellent programme has been arranged. Much of the success of the carnival has been due to the untiring efforts of members of the Hamilton West School Parents’ Association. Mrs Kent-Johnston has had much to do as organiser, while Mr D. G. Cook, the secretary, and Mr Henderson, as treasurer, have played no mean part. Every class has its convenor, who arranges most of the functions in connection with the class. The convenors are:—Standard VI, Mrs Redmond; Standard V., Mrs F. E. Mason; Standard 4, Mrs Kent-Johnston; Standard 111., Mrs Varney; Standard 11., Mrs Holloway; Standard 1., Mrs Gough; Infants, Mrs Wheeler; Composite, Mrs White and’ Mrs Choat.
