NEW ZEALAND CHANGES. COMMISSIONER HAY’S SUCCESSOR. COMMISSIONER JOHN CUNNINGHAM (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, Aug. G. It is understood that Commissioner John Cunningham, formerly international secretary of the Salvation Army for Europe and the Dominions, is to succeed Commissioner James Hay as Territorial Commander in New Zealand. It is reported that Commissioner Hay will take charge of the Army’s affairs in Eastern Canada, but at headquarters it is stated that Only General E. J. Higgins, head of the organisation, knows.
Commissioner George Mitchell, now In Sweden, is to succeed Commissioner Cunningham.
Commissioner .James Hay has been chief of (lie Salvation Army in New Zealand since September, 1924. He was born in Glasgow 60 years ago and became an officer in the army at tile age of 17. lie became the principal of the college in London in which lie was trained for officcrship, and for 12 years commanded the Salvation Army forces in Australia. He was then appointed to the command of the British Isles, where he served with distinction.
Commissioner John Cunningham, who is named as Commissioner Hay’s successor, has served in England and South Africa, in Holland as chief secretary and in the Dutch East Indies as territorial commander.
