The report of the Commercial Bank of Australia for'the year ended June 30 states that the net profits amounted to £391,623. The amount brought forward was £90,485. The directors propose to pay dividend for six months at 4 per cent, per annum on the preference shares, taking £42,347, and dividend for six months, or from the due date of instalments, on the ordinary shares at 15 per cent, per annum, £116,406, carrying forward £94,190.

Enthusiastic scenes accompanied the departure of the French cruiser Tourvillc from Auckland for Wellington last evening. With her band playing and a searchlight piercing a pathway through heavy rain, the cruiser's stern swung away from the Central Wharf punctually at 6.30, but owing to tlie failure of a steam compressor an unforeseen delay occurred, and it was not until 40 minutes later that she sailed out into the stream.
