FAREWELL AT WALTON.
TRIBUTES OF EBTEEM. A POPULAR FAMILY. Mr, Mrs and Miss Barkley, who are going to reside at Hamilton, were farewelled by a large number of friends in the Walton hall. The hall was tastefully arranged as a drawingroom, and the ladies served a delicious afternoon tea.
Songs were sung by Mrs Fromm, Miss Edna McLean and Mrs C. Given. Mrs Barlow and Mrs Given presided at the piano. Spee'ches in praise of the sterling qualities of Mr, Mrs and Miss Barkley were made by Messrs F. E. Harris, W. McLean and L. Mapp.
Mr McLean, on behalf of Walton friends, presented Mr and Mrs Barkley with a heavy travelling rug and Miss Barkley with a solid silver roller calender.
Mr Barkley, being an invalid, the Rev. Mr Wilkes, of Morrinsville, spoke on his behalf, thanking the Walton friends for the kind words spoken and the beautiful presents. Mi - Wilkes also said that personally he would miss the Barkley family very much, as they had been strong supporters of the church. Miss Barkley thanked the friends for the lovely afternoon and the presents. She expected to be often back in Walton.
“Auld Lang Syne" was sung and three hearty cheers for the guests were given.
