TRAFFIC CONTROL.
CHICAGO USES ROBOTS. (From a Correspondent.) CHICAGO, June 22. Chicago is to have its first experience with robot traffic control about July. The installation of this newlydeveloped electrical automaton is to be made at Marquette Road and Woodlawn Avenue.
This particular type of control unit to be experimented with is known as the Miller “tral'folalor.” Its operations are calculated to overcome the inconveniences of fixed period light signals at intersections where traffic is heavy on a main thoroughfare and light on the cross streets.
The device is said to maintain movement signals continuously on the main thoroughfare until cross traffic approaches the intersection. When a cross traffic vehicle approaches to within 12 feet of the intersection it touches a switch which gives a green light and changes the main artery signal to red. As soon as the crosstraffic car passes, the main line signal returns to green.
