MAYORAL ROBES

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —There are some small-souled folk in the world, and “Citizen” is evidently one of them. He begrudges our Mayor a set of robes, and thinks the money could be better spent in providing relief for the unemployed. Such reasoning is fallacious. The Mayoral robes will represent a considerable amount of labour, and as such is not wasteful. If every public body and every, individual abstained from everything not absolutely necessary the cry of the unemployed would be much more clamant than it is., las a Hamiltonian of long-standing am pleased that the Council has decided to provide our Mayor with insignia of office; I think it a reproach to the town that it was not provided long ago.—l am, etc., ADVANCE. Hamilton, June 29.
