IMPORTANT STATEMENT. MARKETING OF DAIRY PRODUCE. MR. W. GROUNDS SPEAKS OUT. An important statement in reference to the marketing of dairy produce was made at the North Auckland Dairy Conference by Mr. W. Grounds, formerly chairman of the Control Board, states The Dairvfarmer in this month’s issue. lie was convinced, Mr. Grounds said, of tlie absolute necessity of forming the producers into a consolidated body, and now that the Control Board issue had been side-stepped, he had been actively engaged in making enquiries with a view to finding a basis for the establishment of an alternative scheme. It was essential that some effort should be made in this direction and he was hopeful that in a short time he would be able to outline some scheme for the establishment of a national organisation. He made this statement with a knowledge of what was taking place, after exploring all avenues of possible development, and it was possible that something might be done in time for next season. Necessity for Organisation. Stressing the necessity for some such organisation, Mr. Grounds reminded his hearers that good prices should be regarded carefully by tlio.se concerned in the guidance of the industry. “It is more than probable," lie pointed out, “ that increased prices will be inclined to lull people into a sense of false security altogether unjustifiable when a wider survey is made of the general position. There is np doubt that large Inlying combinations have been formed during the last few years, the chief design of these combinations being to handle more efficiently tho production of countries such as ours.

“ Many of you are aware of the extreme anxiety felt at a certain period of this year by those who did not consider the probabilities of the market and the ultimate result following high prices paid in forward buying during the earlier months of Inst year. Fortunately for us a combination of circumstances turned the scales and made the season highly profitable for producers generally. However, as soon as circumstances arise for the utilisation of power acquired by these combinations the industry is almost certain to be made to suffer as a consequence.”
