TREATY OF VERSAILLES.
GERMAN DEMANDS. STUDENT DEMONSTRATORS. DISPERSED BY THE POLICE. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) BERLIN, June 29. A chain of bonfires blazed on the hilltops along the eastern and western frontiers of Germany last night. They were to symbolise the country's readiness to guard the Fatherland. This was the culminating event In Germany’s protest against the Treaty of Versailles. Those present at demonstrations throughout the country demanded the restoration of ceded territory, the return of the former German ‘colonies, the abrogation of the “war guilt” clause in the treaty, and the immediate cessation of all reparation payments. Monarchist and Fascist University students, in defiance of the orders of their rector, yesterday demonstrated against, the Treaty of Versailles. They marched to the President’s Palace, clamouring for Marshal von Ilindenburg.
The police dispersed the demonstrators with baton charges.
