WAIKATO SYNOD.
OPENING CEREMONY.
CONSTITUTION THIS EVENING
WEEK'S IMPORTANT WORK,
The annual Synod of the Waikato Diocese will open in Hamilton to-day. Clergymen and laymen from all parts will assemble in St. Peter’s Cathedral this evening, where solemn evensong, roll call and the constitution will take place. The preacher will be the Rev. H. D. A. Major, D.D., principal of Ripon Hall, Oxford, and one-time Vicar of Hamilton.
To-morrow Holy Communion will be sung in the Cathedral, at 7 a.m., and all members of Synod are asked to be present. From 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., Canon G. 11. Gavin, of Waitara,will conduct a quiet morning of devotion for all members of Synod. The Bishop will deliver his charge at Alexandra Hall at 3 p.m., and from then onwards Synod will sit to trans--act business as required.
On Wednesday morning at ten o’clock the conference of clerical members of Synod will be held, and lay members will hold their conference at the same time on Friday morning.
All Synod members are invited to a smoke concert to be held in the Winter Show Hall at 8 o’clock on Thursday evening. A flrst-class musical programme is being arranged by the Hamilton Orphans’ Club, who are devoting much time and trouble to make the function a success. Members of the Church of England Men’s Society are also assisting in the organisation. Business On Agenda. The official agenda shows that tomorrow’s business will include the appointment of officers and committees, the presentation of petitions, memorials and reports and motions, of which notice Has been given, will be taken.
In the evening nominations for standing committee and the board of nominations will be taken and the first readings of bills to be introduced (by leave of Synod) will be given. Synod will also deal with the reports and accounts of Standing Committee. i
On Wednesday evening the following elections will take place: Standing Committee, Board of Nominations, Auditor, Diocesan Missionary Committee and Pensions Board representa* tives.
