CURTAILMENT SOUGHT. Exporters of horses to Singapore were perturbed by Information rocolved in Sydney Indicating that racing Is to be curtailed there. It Is the custom- to make a public holiday on the occasion of a race meeting, but whereas In past years one day was usually sufficient, fixtures now sometimes run for four days. It Is understood that business interests have oomblned In a move for the curtailment of the sport, and remedial measures were taken by the racing authorities by the Intimation that no more horses will bo registered for twelve months. Many racehorses are exported from Sydney to the East, and travellers state that gallopers are also sent out from England. So far as Australia Is concerned, the “trade” Is usually In horses of very ordinary ability, for the standard required there Is not high, but they have mot with great success. Refusal to register any more horses for racing would put an effective ban on the trade. The view that New Zealand Is also endowed with a surfeit of racing Is by no mean 3 Isolated.
