DAVID’S VISIT TO THE SUN
A FAIRY STORY FOR OUR “TINIES.”
David was a very lonely little boy, and as he lay on the nursery hearthrug and gazed into the red embers of the firs he wondered vaguely if anyone would remember to wake him in the morning for the great eclipse of the sun. • The room was very still, and nurse was downstairs, so David began to trace little figures on the hearthrug with the poker as he sat. Suddenly the room seemed filled with golden radiance, and David, looking up, saw before him a tiny figure dressed entirely In a frock of gold tissue, and carrying a miniature wand. “Good evening, David,” said the little lady, as she tiptoed on to the rug beside him. "I have come to take you to the land of Eternal Sunshine, where our Queen desires to speak with you." David, in rather a b.ewildered way, followed her out of the window and over a long green field, to what seemed to David the foot of a rainbow; here they stopped. The fairy, waving her wand, called — “We are here, oh, Queen of the Then appeared a most beautiful lady, clad in golden raiment, followed bv a troop of small attendants. Walking up to David, she bent and kissed him, saying as she did so—“I have sent for you to-day because you were so lonely, and I want to show you the way you can be made far happier than many little boys and girls Years ago I was lonely, until I came to live up In the sunshine. And now, when I see people, who perhaps have had a long day’s work, and have nothing bright to look forward to, as they tramp home in the rain, I am able to shine through the rain, until the drops sparkle, and the sky again is clear, and thus make them happier, and feel so myself. And so, David, dear, as you grow up, however sad you feel, try to be like Sunshine, and spread it wherever you go, and you will never feel lonely.’ Then the Queen, kissing David again, bade him good-bye. 9 . Next morning David was awakened early by nurse to ,see the eclipse. Jumping out of bed he ran to the window, and saw it was- raining. But, as the time drew nearer, the sun pushed through the clouds, and David knew that the Queen had spread her Sunshine in making thousands of watchers happy. 1 ■ ■
