COMPLIMENTARY BALL,

CAMBRIDGE FIRE BRIGADE. A BIG SUCCESS. The annual complimentary ball tendered by the citizens of Cambridge to the Volunteer Fire Brigade was held on Thursday evening. There was a large attendance and the function proved a huge, success. Delightful dance music was supplied by Banfield's Orchestra. The supper-room and stage were decorated with pink and white camellias and autumn leaves, arranged by Mrs M/ Wells. The duties of M.C. were in the hands of Messrs Alan Clark, A. W. Gane and F. Green.

The supper arrangements, which were all that, could be desired, were in the hands of the following committee: Mesdames A. W< Gane, K. Reeve, L. Short, E. N. Souter, J. S. Fisher, Mahoney, Haworth, Harris, F. Thomason, A. Pearce, Kingdon, C. Meredith, Hall, W. Munroe, H. L. Nixon, F. Ferguson, M. Wells, W. Wilkinson, Misses Priestley and Clark. During a brief interval the Mayor, Mr C. H. Priestley, presented medals and trophies won during the year as follows: Five years’ service 'medal, Fireman D. McKay; three years’ service certificates, Firemen Bourne, and Green. Fireman Drew was also presented with an extra bar for 15 years’ service. Firemen W. Harris, H. Carter and Wright were congratulated upon winning for their brigade the coveted trophy (the Howden Shield) for this year. There were twelve teams in the competition, which took place at Te Awamutu. Mr K. Reeve (secretary) in the absence of Captain Vause, owing to sickness, thanked the ladies committee and all those who had helped to make the function a success.
