THOUSANDS OF EUROPEANS. A remarkable increase in the number of European immigrants arriving in Sao Paulo, the prosperous Brazilian coffee State, has been reported for the first three months of this year. Stories of big profits made by the farmers under the coffee defence plan Is said to be tho principal factor which drew nearly 33,000 immigrants there during the first quarter of this year, whereas the total for the first six months of last year was approximately 41,000. Thousands of coffee trees are being planted in Western Sao Paulo, according to reports, and there has also been a marked increase in the State's sugar crop estimated at 1,200,000 sacks last year, or about onethird of the annual consumption within the State.
