HOCKEY.
THE AUSTRALIAN VISIT.
COMING TO PLAY HOCKEY. SIGHTSEEING NOT DESIRED. The message sent by the manager °f the Australian Hockey team to the effect that they did not desire to have shy of their lime while here set aside for sight-seeing is one that is unusual. It is quite evident from Mr W. Rothwell’s message (incidentally "he has managed the Aussies on both previous Mslts and is a very popular figure on this side) that the Aussies are right out after "scalps." The fact that the last tour was disappointing to supporters of the game here has evidently spurred the management on the other side to give us something to think about. We are with them in the hope that the games to be played will be of a standard that will be creditable to themselves and us. And many a goodly share of success come their way. One notable absentee from this year’s combination (as far as I have seen) is “Togo” Abel, who so ably skippered the Aussies in • past visits. Doubtless from the number of nominations received for the trip from the pick of Australian players the final selection should be a very solid side. That the team is fully representative of Australia’s hockey talent can be gathered from the fact that players have been chosen from: Queensland (4), New South Wales (7), Perth (1), Victoria (1), with two more still to be selected.
Smart Travelling,
As the itinerary stands at present the visitors will have a smart jump at the end of their tour. They play Fcilding Association on August 7, and Thames on August 8. That means that they will have to catch the trunk express at Feilding at 5.30 and leave Frankton at 7.30 a.m. for Thames, where' they will arrive about noon. By the time the game is over they will have had enough for 24 hours. HAMILTON GAMES. Hamilton: Old Boys 6 v. United 3. Kaipaki defaulted to Old Boys Colts. Juniors: Hinemoa 2, v. Old Boys 1;
