RACING.

HORSES AT TE AROHA.

MOUNTAIN VIEW STABLES. A WORTHY COLLECTION. The Mountain View stables, presided over by Mr 1L 15. llines, at Te Aroha West, are wintering a very nice collection of thoroughbreds, which all give evidence of careful attention to their well-being. In the principal box is King Lu, a district favourite, by virtue of his performances. He has thickened out since racing at Ellerslie early this month, and most of his time is being spent in a well grassed paddock. . Queen Arch, the Cup winner of the stable, is looking especially well and with what would pass as a summer coat is very bright. She is being kept in racing condition and although she is not engaged at Trentham next month, is ready to race again at any time. For consistency this Marble Arch mare would be hard to beat and is not yet a back number on the turf. Musketoon is looking very robust indeed, and is the picture of health and strength. In the paddock he enjoys his freedom to the full, and the antics he indulges in before visitors are very interesting. King Win, the twenty-months-old son of King Lu and the Penury mare, All-win, is a juvenile worthy of eliciting the admiration of lovers of the noble thoroughbred. A bay in colour with black points, he stands nearly 10 hands high. He has a game and well set head, long rein, deep and flat shoulders, well sprung barrel, short back with admirable couplings, well let down hind quarters, splendid flat bone and good feet. In all respects he is a really fine stamp, and several good judges agree that King Win should rank among the best yet bred in this district. In the next compartment Is a rising two-year-old chestnut gelding by Hay Comet—Jena, by Cuirassier. Very shapely indeed, with decidedly good bone and a game head, together with the Musket —St. Simon strains in his pedigree this juvenile should swell the Day Comet stock winnings on the turf. The next to come under notice was a rising two-year-old dark bay Ally by Lucullus — Picture, by the Soult horse St Amans, from Shower Gold, by Marble Arch Merry Nif. This filly is of the low, set type, is thick and powerful and shows plenty of quality. She has a most intelligent head and is well furnished already. On appearances she may race early, and should certainly uphold the honour of a successful racing family. In an adjoining paddock there are six foals, five of which are by the Stedfast horse, Musketoon. To him they bear a decided resemblance in general type, and are well grown, with good bone. The stable is fortunate in having the assistance of. Dick Porter, who is thoroughly up to his work In all departments.
