The Duke of Gloucester (Prince Henry), who has been at Vancouver three weeks recovering from the effects of his broken collar-bone, the result of an accident at polo on June 4, left on Wednesday en route to England. He will sail from Quebec on July 2 by the Empress of Australia. The Duke’s right arm is still carried in a sling.

Mr. R. H. Edie, of Edievale, Otago, is among the Otago visitors in Hamilton.

Mr. R. Jones, of the Otago Daily Times literary staff, is with the Otago farmers visiting Hamilton to-day.

Mr. J. D. Revie, President of the Otago provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, is in Hamilton to-day.

Messrs A. C. Leary, A. Craig, J. Christie, and D. M. Reid, members of the Otago provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, are visiting Hamilton.

Information has been received that General Higgins, head of the Salvation Army, will visit New Zealand next year, arriving in Wellington on March 23. Whilst here he will conduct a big Salvation Army Congress.

Mr Adam Wilson, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Thames, has been appointed manager of the bank's Gisborne branch. Mr Wilson will be succeeded at Thames by Mr J. S. Columb, manager of the Whakatane branch of the bank.

Mr G. C. Fache, Commissioner of Pensions, will retire at the end of this month, after 40 years in the Public Service. Mr Fache is a New Zealander, having been born at Clyde in 1870.

A presentation of a dinner set was made at a social at Rotorua to Mr and Mrs Ambrose Howell, who are leaving the district for Tatuanui. Mr A. E. Missen, outside manager for the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, in making the presentation, referred to Mr Howell as a line type of settler who had done much for the welfare of the district.

Mr W. E. Vickery, pastor at the Church of Christ, Onehunga, who has been transferred to the Gisborne Church, was farcwelled by his congregation and presented with an inscribed gold watch, a travelling rug from well-wishers at Pukekohe, a gold pencil from the Boys’ Club, and a leather book-satchel from the Young Women’s Club, while an attache case was presented to Mrs Vickery.

The degree of D.C.L., honori® causa, is to be conferred at Oxford University upon certain distinguished foreigners. They will include the Marquis de Merry del Val, Spanish Ambassador to Britain, Mr C. G. Dawes, United States Ambassador, and Mohamad Mahoud Pasha, Prime Minister of Egypt. Mr F. B. Kellogg, exSeci'etarv of State in the United States, and Marshal Lyautey, on whom it was proposed to confer the degree, will not be able to be present.
