TRANSPORT PROBLEMS
AUTHORITY FOR BUSES. SEPARATE EODY POSSIBLE. REPLY FROM MINISTER. Advice that it was possible that the Transport Advisory Council might consider the question of establishing a licensing authority for omnibuses apart from any existing local authority was received from Hon. W. A. Veitch, Minister of Transport, by the Borough Council last evening. It will lie recalled that the Borough Council recently wrote urging that the Act he amended to provide for a separate authority. At present the position is somewhat unsatisfactory, as the people in the area outside the borough have no representative on the licensing authority. The council considers that adequate powers should be provided to prevent vehicles which do not come within the scope of the Act from establishing services in competition with services authorised by the licensing authority.
