TE AWAMUTU ORPHANS

SEVENTH SESSION OPENED. If there was any doubt among some of the members about the enthusiasm prevailing for the seventh session of the Te Awamutu Orphans’ Club, this were speedily set at rest when nearly i 00 members rolled up for the opening night. Members came along from miles away, and Auckland, Hamilton, and Cambridge Clubs were also represented. Bro. S. S. Preston presided, and he was given hearty assurance of support and good wishes for another successful session.

Proceedings opened with the National Anthem, and the Orphans’ ode followed by the selection "Manrico, 1 by the orchestra (fifteen instruments, under the baton of Bro. Mayo).

The president took the opportunity of welcoming the Hamilton and Cambridge brethren, the new members, and the club’s patron, Bro. W. JBroadfoot, and their old friend, Bro. A. A. Chittenden, who had come especially from Auckland. An excellent programme was provided, Bros, "ioung (Cambridge), Jones and Grant (Hamilton), and W. Mills contributing appropriate songs Bro. A. McMahon euphonium solos,’ Bro. Geo. Morriss recitations, and Bro. A. Patterson offered four choice gramophone selections. After supper had been done iUjI justice to. Bro. Broadfoot expressed pleasure at being able, to attend such an enjoyable gathering. Bro J. Gilbert, president of the Hamilton Club, announced his club’s very good wishes, and invited Te Awamutu Orphans to visit Hamilton next Saturday evening. Bro. H. A. Bethelsen extended Cambridge Club’s con-; gratulations, and hoped Te Awamutu, j Hamilton and Cambridge Clubs would , continue flic fraternal spirit, which , was good for all three towns.
