HAMILTON MARKETS. PEARS AND APPLES DEARER. VEGETABLES IN GOOD SUPPLY. Fruit. Prices for all varieties of pears and apples have hardened distinctly this week. Delicious were selling at 7s to 8s 6d; good Ballarats were in demand, selling readily at Gs 6d bushel; Hult tomatoes are steady at about 7s Gd per case; good pears, which were very cheap last week, are bringing Is to 2s per case more than last week; Island oranges are cheap, consequently good quantities are being disposed of; bananas have been scarce. Prices: Apples, Delicious 7s to 8s 6d, Sturmers 5s to Bs, Edwards Lippiatt 6s to 7s, Ballarats 6s 6d, Sharp’s Late Red 5s to 7s, Johathans 6s to 7s 6d, Dougherty 5s to 7s, Stone Pippin 7s 6d; pears, Nelis 6s to Bs, Coles 5s to 7s, Vicars ss, Caprimat 4s, Josephine 6s to 8s; Hutt tomatoes, 7s 6d; Sunkist oranges, 355; Island oranges, 22s 6d.

Vegetables. All varieties of vegetables have been in good supply this week, with a good demand. Cauliflower and cabbage, which were in good supply and sold cheaply last week, were in short supply this week, consequently prices were high. Kumeras are selling readily at low rates; good pumpkins brought 7s cwt; marrows are bringing 3s doz.; rhubarb was cheap; onions are steady at £lO 10s, with potatoes at £9. Prices: Potatoes, £9 ton; onions, 10s 6d cwt; cauliflowers,' 9s to 12s; cabbage, 10s; kumeras, 4s Gd bag; pumpkins, 7s cwt; marrows, 3s doz.; carrots, parsnips, beet, Is dozen bundles. Produce. The local merchants report that steady business has been transacted during the week. The demand for grass seed is falling off slightly. Wheat, oats, and maize are in good demand and selling at late rates. Manures are selling fr.eely at late rates. Poultry. Messrs Fow, Cobbe and Co., Ltd., report again having yarded a large entry of about 600 head of poultry for their midweek sale, and nearly all were sold at prices on a par with previous sales. Heavy cockerels made 3s to 3s 6d, light 2s to 2s 7cl; roosters, Is 6d to 2s 7d; heavy hens 2s 7d to 4s 3d, light is 9d to 2s 3d, old Is 3d to Is 6d; ducks, 2s 6d to 7s; drakes, Is Gd to Is 9d; forward pullets, 6s to 8s Gd, medium 3s 3d to ss, small 2s to 2s 9d.

The local markets report that a heavy yarding of birds again came forward to the sales during the week and the prices realised were on a par with last week’s rates. Fish.

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board advises that the following prices are being offered for fat stock for export at May 13, 1929: Canterbury.—Prime woolly lambs, 3Glb and under, lOd; 371 bto 421 b, 9d; 431 b and over, Bid; second quality lambs, 8 7-Bd. Southland. —Prime woolly lambs, 361 b and under, 9Jd; 371 b to 421 b, 83d; 431 b and over, BJd; second quality lambs, 3Glb and under, 8 5-8 d; over 361 b, 7 5-Bd. It may be noted that at the present lime most lambs arc being purchased by head, consideration being given to the quality of the lambs and the value of the skins.
