BOXING.
A TOURNAMENT STOPPED. FORGOT TO GET PERMIT. (By Telegraph. — Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. An amateur boxing tournament in Christchurch to-night came to an untimely end when the police arrived and refused to allow it to continue.
The body controlling the tournament, the Christchurch Amateur Boxing and Sports Club, which is affiliated with the new Zealand Boxing Association, had not observed the necessary' formality of obtaining a peri..it. Early in the evening Hie secretary, Mr 11. R. Sampson, remembered that he had not obtained a permit and telephoned to Superintendent Eales. The superintendent would not give permission off hand at the last moment and while the tournament was in progress Sergeant Almond and a squad of police arrived, ordered that the boxing should cease, and look the names of the persons concerned in controlling the tournament.
