RUGBY FOOTBALL.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE WEEKLY MEETING. The weekly meeting of the management committee of the Hamilton Rugby Union was held last night in the union room, the president, Mr Udy, presiding. There were also present Messrs Speight, Veats, Clarke, Senior, Bateman, Nelson, Farrelly, Whiting and Thompson. The Te Kowhai Football Club wrote to the effect that strong exception was taken t.o the action of several Hamilton clubs in combing Ihe country districts at- the commencement, of each season for new players. This, it was contended, hart a weakening effect on country teams, and as a remedy it was suggested that a distancp limit fot Hamilton players he set- This matter was fully discussed, and ihe secretary was instructed to write to Ihe Te Kowhai Club io Ihe effect that nolhing could lie done in the matter at present because of the lack of a district scheme, and suggesting to them that they bring the matter before the next annual meeting. The captains of four third grade teams, who were called before the meeting to explain the conduct of their teams in kicking a football about adjacent to the outbuildings on the Showgrounds contrary to tile warnings of the caretaker, were warned by Mr Udy of Hie consequences if the occurrence was repeated. He impressed upon them the fact that the Rugby Union was responsible for all damage done. Schools’ Games. An application was received from the Hamilton Primary Schools’ Rugby Union for the use of Hinemoa Park from June 5. it was stilted that nine grounds would be required for primary school football. After some discussion tiie matter was deferred to the next meeting. it was decided to allow the Primary Schools’ Rugby Union the use of all Ihe Rugby grounds available on Wednesday afternoons, during the season, on condition that teachers are in charge. The use of the dressing sheds will be granted to any sciiool which may desire them.

Technical Old Boys’ Club requested that the Blue Bus Company lie asked to reserve an'omnibus for the use of players and officials after the games on Saturday afternoon. The matter ‘is to be brought before the notice of the company. The action of the City Club in fielding a player who is resident in the territory of the Cambridge Union was Hie subject of a letter front that body. Ttie residential qualifications of the player were discussed, and the matter was deferred until later, pending investigations. The City Club is to be asked to furnish particulars as lo the residential qualifications of the player since April 1.

Several insurance claims were referred to the insurance Committee.

Johnstone, (Jid Boys’ Senior B; 11. F. Smith, MarisL Seniors; it. Kempthorne and T. Tangilon, City Seniors. The Junior Advisory Board advised the re-grading from senior to junior of It. McLean (City), and B. Dodds (Frankton).—This was approved. Training Facilities.

The matter of training facilities was mentioned by Mr Farrelly, who said that many players favoured open air training in pre"erence to the Horse Bazaar. He moved that the various clubs be asked in the event of lighting facilities being installed on No. 4 ground at Rugby Park, what use would be made of the ground. The question of programmes was considered, and it was decided that in future the names of the players of the senior teams playing on No. i ground will be included on the programme.

Regarding the insurance scheme, it was mentioned that the Maori teams had not yet joined up. Mr Speight said that a letter had been sent to the teams, explaining that the scheme is compulsory to all clubs. The matter was deferred to a later date, to await developments. The practice of teams leaving the field at half-time was brought before the meeting. Mr Senior quoted a rule to the effect that this was not allowed without the permission of the referee.—lt was decided to take no action until such time as it is required. Mr Whiting said that last Saturday several members of the City team went on the field without numbers on their jerseys. This, he said, rendered the printing of programmes a useless procedure. The meeting decided to draw the attention of the City Club to the fact that numbers must be worn.

Mr Yeats said that he had noticed quite a number of people watching the games over the fence at the Whitiora end of the Held. This state of affairs had existed since the opening of Hie season, and some step should be taken to obviate the nuisance. He suggested that a corrugated iron fence be erected to discourage the practice. People had also been seen climbing over the fence at this point. After some discussion it was decided to procure an estimate for erecting a corrugated iron fence, and also to place barbed wire along this section.

JUNIOR ADVISORY BOARD, THE WEEKLY MEETING. The weekly meeting of the Junior Advisory Board was held in the Rugby Union room on Monday night, Mr A. P. Nelson presiding. The following re-gradings from senior to junior were recommended to the Management Committee: — R. McLean (City) and B. Dodds (Frankton). The re-grading from junior to third grade of H. Forbes (Marist Old Boys) was granted. A number of junior registrations from City Club were again referred back to that club for further particulars as to previous playing records. The explanation of the Technical Old Boys’ Club in playing an unregistered player in their match against lluia on May 4, was received, but after consideration it was decided to award the game to the Huia Club. A similar decision was arrived at in the case of the match between United Thirds and Te Kowhai, when United played two unregistered players. The match was awarded to Te Kowhai. The Marist Old Boys’ Club notified the withdrawal of their fourth grade team from the competition- nwiru. to

insufficient players ncing available. The withdrawal was accepted with regret. The fourth grade round was postponed for one week on account of the school holidays. Frankton ami Technical Old Boys will play a friendly game on Saturday, May 18. An explanation from the City Club regarding the default to r lc Kowhai of their junior team on May 4, was accepted. A number of clubs are to be written to regarding their action in playing unregistered and over-weight players. •< Messrs 11. T. Tait and R. Johnston, jun., are to be asked to select the junior representatives, and Messrs M. A. Scott and \V. Williams to select the third grade. The third and fifth rounds of the Junior B and Third Grade B competitions arc transposed owing to the school holidays.
