PALMERSTON DEVIATION
WORK TO BE SUSPENDED. I STATEMENT BY PREMIER. EXPECTATIONS NOT REALISED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Tuesday. When the Palmerston North Railway deviation was proposed in 1924 the expenditure was suggested because traffic developments at that point indicated that It would double In 12J years. Subsequently It has been shown that this expectation has not been fulfilled and that crucial fact, coupled with financial considerations, has determined the Government In deciding to suspend the work. The above statement was made by Sir Joseph Ward to-day.
