INTERESTING ITEMS. The Minister of Justice (Hon. T. M. Wilford) announced that a small supplementary list of women justces of the peace would be publshed shortly. “The job is too good, and for that reason the job will never finish,” stated Mr G. L. Marshall, at the annual meeting of the Marlon branch of the Farmers’ Union when advocating that the Deteriorated Lands Board be abolished. “The members are paid £2 a day to give advice to the settlers,‘ and this cannot be carried out because the settlers have not the money,” he adde. “A ton or two of fertiliser would do the settlers more assistance than the board."

During March the following stock was slaughtered at the Oamaru Borough abattoirs:—l7B head large cattle, 794 sheep and lambs, 14 pigs and one calf. Of this number one steer and one sheep were found to be unfit for human consumption and were consigned to the destructor.
