Eggs.—Another advance has taken place. Duck eggs are arriving in such small quantities that they are not quoted at the usual reduction on hen eggs, the difference this week being generally only one penny. Potatoes. —The position is much the same as last week. Unfortunately rust is more general than usual this year, hciving affected some districts which were formerly free. Forward business with Canterbury is quiet, the indications being that this year it will not pay to speculate. Onions for Vancouver. —The Niagara next week will take the first onions of the season to Vancouver and other ports. The quantity is not large, and the only effect of this trade has been to stabilise the price at its former level, whereas otherwise the good crop might have brought down the price a little lower by now. Quotation is £7 at Pukekohe, or £9 10s from Auckland stores, and the quality is now so good that large quantities are selling. Oats and Chaff. —Business is only moderate. Oats are weak, apparently anticipating a good .harvest in Southland. On the other hand, chaff is difficult to obtain at present, and local stocks are running low. Wheat. —Fowl wheat is selling well at 7s Bd, but the forward market is weak, owing to the good harvest in prospect' and the large carryover. Maize. —Unchanged at 6s 6d ex store, with fairly regular supplies arriving from Gisborne. Seeds. —Orders for grass seed are coming in every day, but only for small quantities.
