Four of the eight Moth aeroplanes ordered by the New Zealand Government for training purposes, have arrived from England, and are being assembled at the Wigram aerodrome. Mr J. S. Fletcher, M.P., received word yesterday from the Minister of Defence, Hon. T. M. Wilford, that the aeroplanes will be ready for use at Wigram in a week, and that Major G. A. C. Gowper, instructor for the Auckland Aero Club, should proceed south to undergo an advanced instructors’ course of training in the new machines. A motor launch, the Mandalay, with 18 passengers on board for Townsville, is overdue. Grave anxiety is felt for the safety of several prominent people among the passengers.
