FASHION NOTES.
PEASANT PRINTS. The old coffee brown, a rich warm lone, which has not been popular for over four years, is having a favourable revival, especially in lace. Swiss festival prints are the latest creation of the fabric designers, and the patterns represent the four seasons and glorify the life of the peasants and winegrowers.
Shawls of many colours are here; of black net cunningly embroidered with many-hued flowers, of lame, with a background of black, showing up the golden roses mingling with others in pastel shades, or scarlet, embroidered with wonderful applique flowers in gold and silver lame—these net, these lame shawls, are certainly a beautiful accessory.
Beaded frocks have taken on a' new lease of life, for they have been presented to the world worked in an entirely new manner, which removes a great part of that heaviness which seemed their chief characteristic before. Spangles also have made their appearance on some of the new dresses.
The figure of Mephistopheles, painted in black on the corner of a wisp of a red chiffon frock for evening wear looks quaint. He is gazing down pensively on a quaintly designed rock before him.
Chiffon and tulle are extremely fashionable just now for robes-de-style. So are lame and tissues, which have been used in entirely different ways, and they usually strike a note of almost Oriental luxury, which is quite in keepings
