DIRTY RIVER AGAIN.

EROSION ABOVE HORAHORA. TEST FOR PUMPING PLANT. Evidence of extensive erosion on the Waikato River above Hon-Jaora is given by the muddy nature of the water at Hamilton during the last two days. It is believed that another series of slips has occurred -between Arapuni and Horahora, where the river will continue scouring out the banks for some years, with resultant discolouration in the lower reaches. A member of the staff of the Borough Pumping Plant stated to-day that he had not seen the river in such a state since the heavy rainfall about four months ago. With the aid of the pump brought from Arapuni, the pumping staff is managing to cope with the excess of silt coming down the river. However, the process of clarifying the water is an arduous one, and it is impossible to remove all the discolouration. It is thought the downpour experienced last week was responsible for aggravating the erosion. With fine weather, the river should be back to normal in a few daya, , ,_.
