Hubert Wilkins, who is at Deceptioir Island awaiting an opportunity to » leave on a flight to the South Pole,_, reads:— f " Our seaplane, fully loaded, is lying, at anchor ready to start at a moment's notice on the hoped-for adventure. Watch is being kept from a hill at the harbour's mouth, hut drifting ice entering the bay has ruined any chance of taking off. However, we made a short flight in the plane San Francisco, which is now fitted with wheels, inj the course of which we climbed 600CIJ feet for 100 miles, which revealed as. far as the eye could see unbroken clouds. It is useless to proceed un-\ der present conditions, but the indiea-*'i tions are for an improvement." jl,/
