SUCCESSFUL AUCTION.

PROPERTIES CHANGE HANDS. BUILDING PROSPECTS BRIGHT. A successful night auction of land was conducted by Messrs Boyes and Company, Ltd., last evening. Some 100 persons were in attendance, anc? several had to find room on the footpath. Prior to commencing the sale, the auctioneer said the properties were being offered at the request of several owners, and in an endeavour to put some life into the property market, which had been dull for a time. With the return to more prosperous times, as evidenced on all sides, Hamilton was about to take up again its buoyant and progressive life. A large building programme was assured for the new year, and this activity in the building and allied trades would quickly reflect itself in other lines of business. There were 12 properties offered. Two sections of Mr Martin Scott's subdivision in Te Aroha Street found buyers, and two sections on the Pearson estate were also disposed of. A residential section facing Opoia Road brought good competition, and was finally knocked down to Mr James Madill. Fair bids wer/: received for other sections, but not sufficiently high enough for sales to result. For a frontage in Lower Victoria Street a cash bid.of £3OO was made, but as this was considerably below the reserve no business resulted. A house at Melville and two at Whitiora were passed without an offer, but fair bidding was received for a superior home on Ohaupo Road. This reached a sum close to the reserve, and the auctioneers hope to conclude the sale privately. A blocK of six acres by the golf links was passed in, likewise a section at Raglan. ,
