CHESS MATCH.
HAMILTON v. TE AROHA. The members of the Te Aroha Chess Club paid a visit to Hamilton on -atmdav to play a match against the loca club. Arrangements had been made for 11 boards aside and Te Aroha, being strongly represented, put up a line performance, the result of the match being an open question right up to the close of play. Twelve games were completed n> 10 30, with Hamilton leading by seven games to live and two games (boards No. 1 and 2) .unfinished. It was decided to continue these games to the finish, with the result that both were drawn, giving a Anal result of eight games for Hamilton against six for le Aroha. During a short interval for supper, Mr P. A. Sweeney, Te Aroha's president, took an opportunity of presenting Mr G. Sale with tiic championship trophy of Te Aroha Club won by him during the present season- Mr Sale is leaving Te Aroha lor Auckland. 'lbis will be a distinct loss to -Te Aroha, who loses one of their best players. Mr F. L. Kenrick in a few humorous and well-chosen words, thanked the Hamilton members for the manner in which the visitors bad been entertained and referred to the genuine feeling of good fellowship which always characterised Hie matches between le Aroha and Hamilton. The following was the full score, Hamilton names being first: —F. bullock drew with 11. N. Maddox; 11. Fenwick drew with G. Sale; \V. J. Stevens lost to F. H. Kenrick; E- E. Wilson drew with A. I’. Kenrick, It. Mcars beat A. E. Burton; E. .1. Stevenson lost to W. B. Perrott; G. 0. Jones drew with Cochrane; F. A. Hirst beat Gibbs; U. Boyes beat Lewis; E. L. Jones beat Buller; S. Clothier lost to McLeod; T. J. Shaw beat Boswell; E. W. EasJ, lost to Itowbotham; S. Burton beat Aitken.
