RE WATER LOAN
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—l wonder how many more extravagant schemes the council wall trj to lure the ratepayers into- borne little time hack it was a new bridge, then baths, town hall, garden place civic square—anything to squande more money. ; I wonder what has been paid away in fees for some of the above. By the drainage, roads etc., we were to be saved such a lot in maintenance. Are we in pocket o\ci these deals? Now they are trying to gull us over the lire insurance by putting the reservoir on columns, when they could not build McGarrigle s wall on River Road without'it falling down. What has that piece of work cost the ratepayers? The traffic bridge was hacked about a little while ago, and it is as bad as ever. I think the engineering staff must be hard up for a job to kill the time, as it is always bringing out some fancy scheme. It is all very well to think of the future, but we have to live and pay the rates In the present. However, I do not think there is a'ghost of a chance of any new loan being carried while Hamilton is in its present state.—l am, 6tC '’ RATEPAYER.
