NEW ERA IN INDUSTRY.
REASON REPLACES FORCE. FEATURES OF THE CONGRESSOPINION OF LABOUR LEADERS. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Australian Press Association). (Rec. September 10, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 9. Mr J. H. Thomas in the Sunday Express says the chief significance of the Trades Union Conference at Swansea was the overwhelming endorsement of the policy of negotiating with employers and a resort to reason instead of force. He added: “It means a new era, in the relationships between capital and labour.” Mr Walter Citrine, in Reynold’s Journal, states that the Congress marked the turning point in the economic life of Britain. That it has brought the trade unions into profoundly important relationship vyith industry was shown in the clearest manner. The unions were not pursuing a will-o’-the-wisp industrial peace, but were making a practical effort to demonstrate their ability to contribute substantially to the solution of national ills.
