PROHIBITION’S DEBACLE. TIGHTENING UP OF TRADE. NOW CLAMOURED FOR. (By Telegraph—Press Assn —Copyright.) (Australian Press Association). (Rcc. September 8, 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 7. The first count of votes in the liquor referendum has concluded, showing nearly a threc-to-onc majority against prohibition —namely 527,957. Large numbers of voters against prohibition are now clamouring for a practical measure of liquor reform ana a general tightening-up of control of the traffic, to which the Government is sympathetic.
