THE CARBINE FAMILY.
MATAMATA IMPORTATION. Spear Dance, who was purchased by the Matamata sportsman, Mr J. Poblen, during his recent visit to England Is a descendant of the Carbine family. Spoar Dance, v/ho is a five year old, by Spearmint from Lady Star, will be a very welcome addition t to Dominion bloodstock. That particular line has now dwindled . down to three, Campfire, Greyspear and Last Dart. Spear Dance was bred by his Majesty the King. At the Doncaster meeting In May, 1927, Spear Dance won the Portland Handicap, one mile three furlongs by four lengths and was timed to run the journey In 2 21 1-6. It is Just possible that Spear Dance will be given an opportunity to earn further honours on the turf here, before being retired to the stud.
