THE WOMENS DIVISION.
DOMINION BOOK CLUB’S WEEK. (By Our Own Correspondent.) . Dominion book Club week has come to an end, and we hope that as a result many boxes of books will soon be finding their way to headquarters at Marton. All who knew and love books will realise something of the pleasure that these parcels of ten books, six magazines, and a collection of illustrated papers bring to the pioneers of the back-block districts, for in these homes there is nearly always a shortage of reading matter. Last year the Dominion Book Club’s initial expenses were high, and it was run at a loss of 7d per member. This year its position is firmly established, and it hopes to double its sphere of usefulness. Those who have given books or other donations can have the satisfaction of knowing- that they have helped a very useful and deserving cause. The Putaruru Branch is to be congratulated on the steady increase of its membership roll. At its monthly meeting on August 25, six new members were “enlisted. It Was decided that the most depressing need of the women of Putaruru’s farnrng community was a rest-room, and that tilt local branch make the providing of it their first objective. Another branch of our Division has been formed at Waverley, and this is the second in that district. As three of our housekeepers had been stationed in the district and had won goodwill for our scheme, this was
quite the easiest branch to be formed. At the Farmers' Union social on Tuesday, August 28, in outstanding feature was an address given by Mrs Harris on the “Women’s Division.'’ This lady is the president of the Oakura Branch, the first branch to be started in New Zealand. Badges for our members will be available at headquarters at .the end of the week.
