NGARUAWAHIA NOTES.
SLIP AT RESERVOIR. After the torrential rain of Tuesday afternoon, the water supply of Ngaruawahia was very turbid ancl full ot sediment. An inspection of the reservoir showed that a large slip had occurred on the steep hillside and a considerable amount of debris, including trees and other bush growth, had fallen Into the reservoir. Another slip had broken the connection between the two small reservoirs and the main one. This break in the pipe line has been temporarily repaired. The cleaning out of the main reservoir will be a work ot some magnitude- The Borough Council has made arrangements for the work oi cleaning out the main reservoir immediately. The work will probably lake a week. Meantime the water supply will be drawn from the subsidiary darns, which are expected to provide an adequate supply for present needs. Record Rainfall. There was a very heavy rainfall again, commencing about four o’clock on Thursday afternoon, 2.7 inches being recorded on Friday morning. There was a lot of >vater about the streets, but no damage was done io shops. Gardens have suffered severely during the week. The combined rainfall for Tuesday and Thursday was 7.3.7 incites, which far exceeds any previous records.
