CLARKE CUP GAMES.

CITY IN THE LEAD. The following tabic shows the position of the teams engaged in the Clarke Cup competition: —

Only one senior game in connection with the Clarke Gup competition was played at Hamilton on Saturday and that was not outstanding. Superior combination enabled City to break down the Technical Old Boys' defences. For the most part the play was very ragged, the finer points being lost in rapid charges and senseless kicking. Possibly the presence of several juniors accounted for this. Egged on by irresponsible mentors on the side-line, some of the players completely forgot themselves and staged

what can only be described as a burlesque. Mr. A. S. Cliffe prevented the game from degenerating into a shambles and handled delinquents firmly. Among the winners, Brown was a pretty capable back and crossed the line on one occasion through sheer perseverance. Going, as usual, made himself acceptable with good kicking and following-up. The work of N. Delaney in the role of full-back stood out conspicuously. Not only did he maintain a stolid defence when conditions were adverse, but he chased his kicks and forged ahead in firstrate style. The Christie brothers toiled hard, and watched the openings and made the most of them. Skcet’s p!a> was of questionable value as ue m.ssed several easy passes and ofton failed to gather the ball. Buckingham was a toiler.

Technical were badly pressed in the scrum and their combination was very hazy. W. Bath kept his end up and ra-ely wavered when in possession. Howes and Bowler worked hard, and Gillies made a worthy showing.
