WAIRARAPA BEATS MARLBOROUGH CARTERTON, Saturday. Marlborough failed to win the Ilanfurly Shield in the -challenge match played against Wairarapa to-day. There was beautiful weather, and an attendance of 3000 people. The challengers at first attempted to keep the game tight, while the Wairarapa hacks attempted to open it up, and they started several passing bouts, but the Marlborough defence held for fifteen minutes, when Parker passed to Gundy, who -cut out all the opposition to Astin, the full-back, and then passed to Stringfellow, who scored near the posts. -Gundy failed with an easy kick.
