Experiments with Wax. : Cheese had not been waxed very 1 much, as the company which purchased the produce did not want it tre £^ d 1 in this way. There was a wide diliererence of opinion about the system waxing. Two London experts who recently visited the factory had expressed diametrically opposed views about itDuring the season 100 crates of cheese were waxed and the company was not aware how it had been received abroad. He was not sure whether it was advisable to wax ,all the output until further experiments had been made. Replying to a question, the chairman said the cost of waxing was very low. Very little extra labour was required for this purpose. He was not prepared to state definitely whether he was in favour of this method of treatment. Little Depreciation on Plant. In connection with depreciation, the chairman stated the directors had adopted a safe attitude. Vats and other plant had been installed and had been set down as renewals so that actual depreciation on the plant was less than it appeared on the balance-sheet. The factory was well managed and was at a high state of efficiency. In order to have milk delivered as early as possible an improvement had been made in installations. Shareholders Satisfied. "Although the price of cheese increased at the end of the season I do not think the pay-out could have been much greater,” commented Mr R. J. Stewart. “The factory staff and directors should he congratulated on the success of operations.” The chairman said an overseas dairy expert had stated that Canada could do with another 20,000 tons of cheese a year and the demand was increasing also in the United States. He remind; cd them that the United Kingdom did not manufacture cheese, so that increased output was doubly justified. Mr P. S. Philpott congratulated thechairman of directors on the transaction of business. He was 'gratified at the achievement of satisfactory sales. The report and balance-sheet, which have been published, were adopted. Foot-and-mouth Disease. On the motion of Mr Stewart it was decided to urge the Government to maintain strict regulations in regard to foot-and-mouth disease. It was resolved also to recommend that all straw and packing be burned to prevent infection. Tributes to the manager and secretary were pad by Mr Dey. Since the advent of Mr A. Colson, the manager, there had been few worries and troubles. A hearty vote of thanks to the manager and staff was passed by acclamation. Dividend of 5 Per Cent. It was decided to pay a dividend of 5 per cent, on paid-up capital. i A supplementary payment of id per jib bulterfat on June 15 and a further i payment of >}d per lb was authorised on July 19, the advance payment to date being is 7jd. It was decided to make a further payment of )d per 11) butterfat from the remaining amountincluding this payment the total payout for the season will he Is 8.20 d. A vote of thanks was passed to the directorate. Replying, Mr Darrall said the directors had faced a good many problems but it was gratifying to know their efforts were appreciated. Directors Re-elected. Messrs J. Hart and W- Luxton were re-elected directors of the company. The chairman paid a tribute to the services of Mr W. C. Woodley, a retiring director, who had been one of the founders of the concern. He ex- / pressed regret at his illness and resignation. The resignation was accepted with regret. Nominations for the vacant position will be accepted within the next fortnight. Mr T. J. Ryan, of Morrinsvillc, was reappointed auditorShare Basis. The chairman said he had investigated the basis of share capital and he and the other directors were not in favour of raising the share allotment from 1251 b to 1501 b of butterfat per share. Before the meeting closed the final bonus of Id per lb of last season’s amount was distributed.
