DESTRUCTIVE FIRES.

TWO OUTBREAKS AT THAMES. SHOP AND HOUSE DAMAGED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) THAMES, Monday. There were two flrcs during the week-end. At 2.4 5 on Sunday morning Constable Smith gave an alarm, the outbreak being in the premises of James Hogg, tobacconist. The shop was gutted. A brick wall on the north saved the premises of J. \V. Arbury, draper, but the heat broke a plate-glass window and scorched the verandah, while water damaged goods in the window. Mr Hogg's shop is a total loss. On the south side was a two-storey building, owned by Mr C. S. Donovan, whose dental rooms upstairs suffered from smoke and water. • The shop underneath, occupied by Mr J. Munn's drapery,, also suffered from smoke and water. At 2 o'clock this morning a Arc occurred in seven-roorned house, owned and occupied by Mrs S. Levien, who was aroused by the furious barking of a small dog, otherwise there would have been serious consequences. The fire originated in the sitting-room, which was gutted. Other parts of the house were badly damaged by smoke and water. Mr Levien lost £ls in notes, which he left on the mantel-piece, only a corner of a note remaining. OUTBREAKS AT WELUNGTON. LARGE PREMISES DESTROYED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday: A fourteen-roomed Iwo-storcy residence at Karori, owned by Mr Colin James, and occupied by Mr Herbert Watts, was totally destroyed by lire this morning. The insurance on the building was £OSO in the Phoenix Office. The furniture was not insured. • About 5 a.m. a two-storey shop and dwelling in Ellice Street was badly damaged by fire. The occupier, .Mr Patrick Cunningham, had his stock and fittings insured for £4OO in the Liverpool, Lancashire and Globe Office, and there was £2OO on the fur'niture in the same office.
