DAIRY CONTRL BOARD.

FARMERS' CRITICISM. HIGH EXPENSE RESENTED. At Ihe annual meeting of the Bruntwood Co-operative Dairy Company at Cambridge yesterday Mr F. Discombo suggested that the company should define its policy in regard to the Dairy Control Board, which was continuing to function at heavy cost. The chairman, Mr H. J- Ambury'. said that he personally had not a great deal of confidence in the present board, particularly since Mr Grounds had lost the chairmanship. In spile of any mistakes he had made, Mr Grounds had never wavered from his policy la ' respect to control. As to the usefulness of the tioard, he felt that the one branch of the business still being ~ conducted by it—the regulation of shipping—was essential to the success of the industry. Without such regulation, it would be impossible, he thought, to get such good prices as during the past season. He would not say that the shipping could not be arranged by another body, and, apart from that .function, he questioned whether the board was justifying its existence. Mr Discombo said the board had been piling up a huge reserve. "The chief difficulty the London portion of the board is up against is to know how to spend the money at its disposal," he added. Unless some dairy company would take the lead in making a protest, the expense would continue. Every company now allowed its funds to be levied upon for the board's expenses. Mr Ambury said he thought there was a movement for combined action on the part of the dairy companies to bring the board "up to the mark." Mr Discombo: "Three men could do the business that nine or a dozen are doing now." No resoluUfls-na-UM js&ttor was \ offered. ~ -,,.,.':..._
