THE SQUIRREL.
A squirrel stood dancing and laughing at me, Right away up in a big gum-tree. I called to her to come and play, And keep me company all the day. But she said, "I couldn't;—come what may, I have three babies to mind all day." I asked her to show me her babies smail, And she said, "Come up; I'll show you them all." And, oh! such darling little babes they were, Covered with the prettiest of soft red fur, And they had the sharpest of beaay eyes, As blue as the bluest of summer skies.
