MATAMATA 'COUNTY.
ESTIMATES FOR YEAR. RATES STRUCK. In submitting the estimates for the current year the. treasurer of the Matamata County Council (Mr G. F. S. Barton) reported that for the year ended Alarch 31, 19,28, the total receipts were £78,562 and the total expenditure £79,930. The percentage for administration was 5.3 per cent, on revenue and 2.70 per cent, on total payments. For the previous year the figures were respectively £112,250, £110,133, 6.19 per cent., and 1.91 per cent. The average proportion for counties on revenue and total payments for 1920-27 was 5.24 per cent, and 3.27 per cent. The total expenditure on public works last year was £49,997, and the cost of engineering and supervision 2.4 6 per cent, thereon. Figures for 1920-27 yere £80,193 and 1.55 per cent. On a total general rate of £14,105 levied £12,497 (84.3 per cent.) was collected to March 31 last. The previous year's figures were £10,524 and £12,183 (73.70 per cent.). The amount of arrears collected last year was £3904 (1926-27, £2078). ’The estimated collections were £14,338. The expenditure on riding works out of revenue for the last three years has been as follows: —1920, £4734; 1927, £5709; 1928, £7420. The balance Lo tiie credit of the Main Roads Loan Account on March 31 was £25,773. It was resolved that the general rales in the various ridings be struck as follows:- —Matamata 1 1-iOd, Peria lid, Tirau ijd, Te Poi Igd, Okoroire lid, Putaruru lid, Tokoroa l|d, Karapiro Ijd, Maungatautari lid.
