SUCCESSFUL EVENING,
HORSHAM DOWNS FARMERS' UNjON
A very enjoyable evening was spent at the Horsham Down's' Hall,When " the Horsham Downs Branch of the Farmers' Union held its annual co>> cert and ball. Despite the wet and cold night, a very large crowd -attended. Every item; was : enthusiastically encored. ■-.-, ~,v. Mr' R. Blackic's comic songs were very much ; appreciated, and he. was., recalled three times. -Miss Laurenson's dancing Was very picturesque, and clever, and the audience enjoyed her immensely. Songs by .Air Watson. Mrs. Nash and Mrs Hepp'esUih'e'-: were - .received . with - a.c el carnation';" while Mrs Dowry's electric /club; swinging- was delightful .and enter--laining. The Forsmari Bros.' inslni- : mental items were' a- huge success.; Mis.s Richie was I the accompanist. ~.'A?- tasty supper was served at the conclusion of the entertainment, and then dancing was continued until -a:, late hour. - / . Mr Henderson, president of \ihe-. Horsham Downs Branch of. the Farm-; : ers' Union, ctxended a hearty welcome i to -Ihe performers and to the visi tors, : and while he had the; opportunity';.to ; : speak to the farmers he urged jho'se': who had hot already joined the Farm-/-ers' Union to do so.at once, as , the/ Union was a great boon to thev farmers. '■ •■ Mr Gilbert, secretary of the Waikato Sub-Provincial "Branch" of?, the ; Union also addressed the'gathering,-: endorsing Mr Henderson's remarks.'
/Mrs McCorkindalc and Mrs'-'ij'aii were the. hostesses, and the' pur.p'rr was arranged /by -, a ladies'/ committee. . ~
