OLYMPIC SELECTIONS.
BADGES FOR ROWING TEAM. The suggestion was made at this week's meeting of the Olympic Council in Wellington that the rowing team, as selected, should be given the 1928 Olympic badge. The chairman (Mr A. I). Bayfield) stated that the team would have been sent, had it not been for the financial hurdle, and the members of it should he given the badge, since they had been selected as an Olympic' team. Mr E. Wyllie opposed the suggestion on the ground that the badge was given only to competitors to the Games. When a member inquired what the badge was, Mr J. W. Ilccnan said that it was a fcrnleaf and the words "New Zealand Olympic Team, 1925." It was decided to grant the badges to the ten rowers selected. A Novel Scheme. The question of collecting funds to send a team to the Olympic Games which will be held at Los Angeles in 1932 was discussed. Mr Hcenan said that if each athlete in the Dominion would give one penny a week and Cd at Christmas fill" the next Olympic Games, there would be no need to appeal to the public for finance. Under this scheme a rowing eight could be sent easily, because the rowers themselves would collect £3OOO. Mr H. A. Austed said that the Athletic Association could then come along, with the nominations and sav "Here is the team and here is tho money to pay for it," instead of bringing the names of the team and leaving the Olympic Association to .find finance.
It was decided to set up a subcommittee, consisting of Messrs Austed, Bayfield, Coira, and Heeaan to consider the matter and report to' the next meeting of the council
