DEMAND FOR FARMS.

MATAIMATA ACTIVITY. SUBDIVISION PROCEEDING. (Special to Times.) MATAMATA, Friday. Considerable activity is evident in the farm land business around Matamata, and there are a number of outside buyers in the district. Visitors from the south are not of opinion that prices are unduly inflated. The district is looking its best just now after a week's line weather, and the back roads are quite passable for motor traffic. Subdivision of farm lands has resulted in many more persons coming to the district. It is stated that in one case near the town there are 53 people on a property which formerly had only the owner's family, and the farm workers. In the Taihoa district a property was divided into three farms. Two of these holdings have already been re-sold, one of them after having buildings, etc., erected. The prices ranged from £35 per acre to £'is. In the case of "going concerns," the price depends a good deal on the quality of the herd. Returns are generally asked for, and there arc some herds around the Matamata district which will, on testing figures, be very hard to beat.

Winter Milking.

The wonderful recovery from the drought points to an early opening for the coming period. In fact one local factory has" advertised its commencement of the new season on June 1. Every year there are more cows milked during the winter months. With the price of butter-fat at a fair level dairymen have found that it pays to keep the late-calvers going through the winter months.
