N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP.

JUVENILE TROTTERS. (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. Advice has been received that negotiations are now in hand to arrange a match for the square-gaited juvenile trotting championship of New Zealand, between First Wrack and Koro Peter, for a stake of £175. The loser will receive £25 of the stake towards expenses. If the match can be arranged the horses will race on the second day of the Auckland Trotting Club's winter meeting on June 27. First Wrack is owned by Mr H. F. Nichoh of Ashburton, while Mr T. W. Cooper, of Tauranga, is the owner of Koro Peter.

FINE PERFORMANCES.

BY BOTH HORSES

\ (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Saturday.

Aucklanders, all going well during the next month, will be in the happy position of seeing a match between First Wrack, owned by the Ashburton sportsman, Mr 11. F. Nicoll, and Koro Peter, owned by Mr T. W. Cooper, of Tauranga. It was at the Ashburton meeting in April that First Wrack opposed a solid held of older and experienced trotters. The youngster was made favourite, and. went a great race to get third, his time for a mile and a-half being 3min 46 3-ssec, a real good go for a youngster. At once he was hailed as a coming champion, but hardly had all the good things been written about him than another smart two-year-old trotter came to light quite unexpectedly. This was at the Cambridge Trotting Club's meeting on May 5. The youngster in question was Koro Peter by Peter Moko —Koro Ena, owned and trained by the owner, Mr Cooper, at Papamoa, Tauranga. There were 22 starters, and Koro Peter beat his older opponents pointless. His time was 3min 54 3-ssec, but the track was slow, and he would do a lot better on a fast track like Alexandra Park.

The club is giving a stake of £175, of which £25 will go to the loser to cover expenses, and it is understood there is to be a substantial side wager between the respective owners. The distance most likely will be a mile and a quarter.
