GOODWOOD JERSEYS.

PEDIGREE HERD DISPERSED. Following his decision to leave the Waikato and move to Ufa south, Mr L. Sampson offered yesterday at public auction his entiie herd of pedigree Jerseys. The sale was conducted by the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company at the vendor's farm, "Fencourt," Cambridge. The company's popular acutioneer, Mr J. McCulJagh, was in the forum. With good foundation stock to work on the vendor had endeavoured to combine type with heavy production, ind in this he was successful. The animils submitted in many cases offered a splendid opportunity to breeders to secure the ideal foundation blood of a remunerative herd.

Woodlands Mercedes Lass, one of the greatest dams in the Waikato, was secured by Mr T. A. Hopkins, of Hinuera, for 137 guineas. This cow has a wonderful record in the show ring. On the first seven occasions she was shown at the various big shows around the district she won easily in good company, and was only beaten on" the eighth occasion at the IlaimTon Show, through being off colour. She will make a great dam for the enterprising purchaser. Woodlands Mercedes Lass has a wealth of butter-fat backing, and is by Mercedes Golden Laddie out of Woodlands Gloria, who traces back to that great dam Briar Lass, with a performance of 490.271 b of fat.

Another line dam, Goodwood Golden Blonde, is an imported cow, from Festoon's Boy out of Blondie's Oxford Victress (imp.), a dam which carries in its veins the blood of that famous sire Blonde's Golden Oxford, 17 150, lI.C. The purchaser of this cow, Mr F. E. Day, of Tamahere, was fortunate in securing this valuable animal at the conservative figure of 57 guineas. Goodwood Jessamine, a yearling heifer from Woodalnds Viola Sultan out of Lady Content, changed hands u.t 50 guineas.

The average price reaped over the whole pedigree herd was 29 guineas. The thirteen cows sold averaged 32 0-13 guineas.
