MORRINSVILLE BOROUGH

MEETING OF COUNCIL. ' GROUND FOR HOCKEY. NEW COMMITTEES ELECTED. The regular meeting of the Morrinsville • Borough Council was held on Thursday evening. The Mayor, Mr McPherson, presided, and the following councillors w r ere present:— Messrs Chapman, Donald, Morrice, Martin, Reason, and Osborne. The engineer, Mr Branch, was also in attendance. Several ratepayers were notified that proper arrangements must, be made for drainage from their premises at once or legal proceedings would be taken against them. The Hockey Club were advised that a ground at the Recreation Grounds had been granted them, with permission to charge for admission. Notice w’as given to several ratepayers in the borough to have their hedges trimmed and blackberry cut. Mr Mitchell wrote offering his services to the Beautifying Committee .in carrying out any work' in the borough. The Waikato Hospital Board forwarded balance-sheet for the year, and stated that the Morrinsville Borough’s contribution was .£475 5s 2d, the amount to be paid in four instalments. Works Committee’s Report. On the Works Committee’s recommendation it was decided 'that No. i football ground should not be played on for the next two Saturdays, also that the footpath in front of Miss Coldicutt’s boardinghouse should be asphalted on condition that Miss Coldicutt should pay £3 towards the cost. The statement presented at last meeting of the proposed rates and charges for the year were explained by the Mayor, and 'the report adopted. It was resolved that a rebate of 5 per cent, be allowed on all rates paid ■within 30 days. Standing Committees. On account of Cr. McPherson being elected Mayor, and Cr. Martin being elected to the council, the old Standing Committees were, dissolved, and the following new ones appointed: —Works Committee, Grs. Chapman, Donald and Martin; Finance Committee, Crs. Osborne and Reason; Library Committee, Crs. Reason and Donald, Sanitary Committee, the Mayor and Deputy-Mayor; Baths Committee, Crs. Reason, Chapman, and the Mayor; Band Committee, . Crs. Osborne, Reason, Morrice, Martin,- and the Mayor; Reserves Committee, Crs. Chapman, Morrice, and Martin. Cr. Chapman was appointed to represent the council on the Fire Brigade. Silent Policemen.

The matter of dealing with the silent policemen in the streets was left in. the hands of the Works Committee to report at next meeting.-
