The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated the 23rd instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. London: —“Wool sales closed yesterday. Competition broadened as series progressed and wider selection became available, and the little lower opening basis was firmly maintained throughout. Prices during last week tended in favour of sellers. Compared with closing rates last ser os New Zealand merino greasy (only fair demand) 5 per cent, lower: line crossbred about 5 per cent., and medium and coarse crossbred, par to 5 per cent, lower. Average closing rates: —60,0 Vs, super (nominal), 2s 3d to 2s 5d per ]b; average, Is 9d to 2s Id: 56/58 s, 2s 2d to 2s 4d; 50/56’s, 2s to 2s 2d; 48/50’s, ts 9d to 2s; 44/46’s. Is 7d to Is 9d; 36/40's, Is std to Is 7d. Total offerings 100,700 bales of which 80,000 sold, Continent taking 49,500, Home trade 29,500. America 1000. Next series commence July 10.
